Farm Data Certification to Grow Industry Trust

The UK farm data self-regulation initiative launched earlier this year is seeking new members to widen its coverage of the agri-food chain and reduce industry friction over the data ownership issue.


The Farm Data Council (FDP) was first established in 2022 to ensure the benefits of the explosion in farm-derived economic and environmental data could be shared by farmers and their suppliers for mutual benefit, while removing trust issues over who owns the data and its potential sale value. The project was formally launched as Farm Data Principles in March this year after two years of development.


The Council set four principles that have been adopted by Farm Data Principles – the data originator owns the data, while certified organisations keep the data safe; are clear about the value of and benefit of data sharing; and strive to make data easy….
